Briefly Introduce: 

The Super Safety Valve is a Fail Safe Safety Valve for testing from a land or jack-up rig.  It is normally run inside or below the Blow Out Preventer (BOP) and is used to control well flow. Its ID is 3.0 in., OD is 8.0 in., and its working pressure is 15,000 psi.  This valve has a port for chemical injection downhole or to control a subsurface safety valve. It is capable of cutting wireline and coiled tubing using the nitrogen charge or by application of balance line pressure.

DESIGN FEATURES

The Super Safety Valve is controlled by two hydraulic lines and contains a chemical injection port.  It is designed to close by spring force but has a nitrogen charge chamber to quicken the closing time.  This feature gives the valve the ability to cut wireline and coiled tubing without the addition of balance line pressure.  The valve is held open by maintaining hydraulic control pressure on the control line.  The nitrogen charge chamber and the balance line chamber are the same chamber.  The nitrogen pressure acts directly on the operating piston and a floating check valve keeps the nitrogen from escaping from the chamber into the balance line.  The check valve floats on the surface of the water (or hydraulic fluid) as fluid is pumped into the chamber. When the fluid is removed, the floating check valve sets down on the seat and seals the nitrogen charge in the chamber.

NEW FEATURES

The valve contains a new ball mechanism that has a 3.0 inch ID and the capability to cut coiled tubing as large as 1.50 inch OD x 0.125 inch wall thickness.  During the design and testing of the 15K Super Safety Valve, a new high pressure plug assembly was qualified for 15000 psi.  This plug seals with a metal-to-metal seal and an O-ring backup seal.  In addition, a new high pressure connector was qualified for 15000 psi. This connector seals with a metal-to-metal seal, and is a direct connection to a hose using a 3/8" medium pressure female swivel.
